Jon’s first buck with the bow
It’s been a great week for me. Got my first doe on Saturday and tonight my first buck. He’s nothing big, but it was a win for me. State land using climber.
Tonight I set up in a lucky spot and was covered in deer. There were two other bucks were milling around. Another small 6 and a 4. Lots of does. This buck came in and I took him at 10 yards. He walked about 35 yards and fell over.

Jon gets his first deer with the bow
Last year was my first year bow hunting and I made every rookie mistake possible. I spent a tremendous amount of time in the woods last year but was never able to connect.
This morning I had to pass on 5 bucks and didn’t see a doe (in NJ you have to shoot a doe first). Tonight I watched a doe pass by just out of range and before I could be disappointed about that I looked over my should and saw 2 does coming in. By the time I assessed the situation there was a third doe on the scene. I had been down this road before. Too many eyes and I will get busted soon.
Something behind them made a noise and they all looked away from me. I took that opportunity to draw back. Just as I was getting lined up, the doe I had the pin on turned and faced me. No more broadside shot. I held and held and held and held until my arm was getting so tired it started shaking. Well, all the shaking unknocked the arrow. luckily the QAD ultra rest prevented the arrow from falling. But now I had to let off without being detected. I luckily did so, cautiously reset the arrow, and waited for my next opportunity. When she started to turn away from me I pulled back and let her have it.
11 yd shot and she went down just 30 yards away. The other deer had no idea what happened. They kept milling about under my stand and while I collected myself a spike buck comes walking in and checks out the luminock. He then joins the other two and just mills around. They were just hanging around in the area and eventually I scared them away so I could get down. They were all so close and clueless. Where were all these deer last year? This year I am using scent eliminator and moved my stand 4 ft higher to feet. I think both help alot.

Jon & Kim in Puerto Vallarta
For the second consecutive year Kim finished #1 out of over 400 people in her sales organization. As a result, Kim and Jon got to go to Mexico on an all expense paid trip. The weather was great, the all inclusive resort exceeded our expectations, and it was very relaxing. Check out Kim in the picture below… she was standing in the 3 tier infinity pool.

Rudy gets synthetic turf
We have to re-sod the backyard 2 times per year after Rudy destroys it with his potent #1. So we put synthetic grass in with 4 inches of drainage underneath. Our lawn will be green year round!

Rudy at Cabelas/DockDogs Big Air Competition
On a whim we decided to enter him. Rudy did great for his first time. We also got to see the national champion today. kim took some great photos and we had a great day. He got to jump 4 times overall. Whatever the farthest back part of the body to hit the water, that is their measurement. Rudy’s max was 9ft 8 inches. By comparison, the winning dog when we left was 21 ft 4 inches. Some of these dogs can fly. Rudy has a tendency to line-drive into the water (which may have something to do with my throws – and he also takes off early. We were just happy he jumped ( a couple other new dogs wouldn’t). **Pictures will advance automatically
